What is the difference between white corundum fine powder and micro powder?

In the refractory industry, some people don’t know the difference between white corundum fine powder and micro powder, even thought they are actually in same specification,  with different terminology. Some other people think they are with different specifications, this point seems to be correct in some extent, but it is far from the truth. Therefore, what are the differences between white corundum micro powder and fine powder? Editor from Mullite  manufacturer would give us answer from the following aspects:

Firstly, white corundum fine powder refers to white corundum mixed sand, with basic fineness 200#-0320#-0.  Different types of white corundum powder have different specifications. While white corundum micro powder  is classified by single particle sizes of the powder, generally W63、W50、W40、W28、W20、W14、W10、W7、W5、W3.5、W2.5、W1.5、W0.5 etc.

Secondly, they are  different in terms of production process and processing technology. The fine powder is generally made through steps of ball milling and air classifying, due to the long crushing time during processing, white color would appear. However, during air classifying,  impurities in the powder would be directly removed,  so in practical applications,  its performance will not be affected.  For micro powder, there are two steps during processing, cleaning and pickling. The impurities caused will be cleaned in small amount through these two steps.

Thirdly, the white corundum fine powder and white corundum micro powder are different is prices. The price of micro powder is much higher than that of fine powder. The reason is that micro powder needs to be further screened and processed. According to screening, different particle sizes of micro powder would be screened. With no doubt, these steps increase not only the difficulty of processing but also the price.

In summary, there are indeed many differences between the white corundum fine powder and white corundum micro powder. In order to bring more added value for companies, proper materials need to be selected.
